The Mortal Instruments ~ A TV show??

Have you heard?? The Mortal Instruments, a wildly popular urban fantasy series, is going to be made into a tv show!

My learning of this news parallels to the movie actors' faces in this scene:
Wait, what? I'm confused
Basically we have no information whatsoever besides the fact that TMI will be a tv show. Honestly, I don't know how I feel about this. I think if they do it right by taking their time to create a GOOD script and cast GOOD actors then it could be great. That's rarely the case though. My hope is that if it turns out really bad no channel will pick up the show.... I'm hopeful yet skeptical at the same time.

If they keep actors, I'd keep Lily (Clary), Robert (Simon), Jemima (Isabelle), and Lena (Jocelyn). Everyone else needs a recast in my opinion. I'm guessing they'd do a book per season? Would they be starting with City of Ashes or start from the beginning? I think it makes more sense to start at the beginning. I hope they don't deviate from the book as much. That'll kill me!! I do tend to like TV shows because it gives you ample time to develop the story while movies tend to be rushed and they cut out some things you wish they hadn't.

How do you feel about this? Would you keep the same actors to portray the characters? Would you rather see another movie or have a tv show or neither?

  1. I can't believe this either. *fangirls* Although I'm just getting into the TMI series (so long), I recently finished the Infernal Devices series and I fell in love with Cassandra's world! i also bought the Shadowhunter Codex, and I've been drawing rune symbols all over my body. I'm obsessed D:

  2. Wow! I did not hear about this! I wonder how it will work though. A book per season is a pretty legit idea....I think I prefer them to be movies though, but I guess it makes sense to make it a TV show, since the series is so long.

What if they add The Infernal Devices in there too? ***!!!! :)

    Thanks for the post~

  3. I would be interested to watch this as a tv show, but I definitely want them to recast Jace and Valentine!

  4. I was really conflicted when I heard the news about this. Like, my first reaction was YES OMG GIVE ME MORE TMI YES, but considering my thoughts on the movie (spoiler: I did NOT like it), my excitement quickly faded. I sincerely hope the screenwriters read the whole series (as well as all the TID books) before writing, because there's all sorts of foreshadowing and links in the Shadowhunter Chronicles that weren't preserved in the movie. Also the soundtrack needs a new composer. As in, one who doesn't think it's a good idea to blast loud Demi Lovato in the middle of a kiss scene (seriously, who does that?)
Personally I've always thought of TID as good TV show material. I don't know why.
In terms of casting, I was actually generally pleased with the movie actors and actresses (although, er, Jace was kind of skinny. I was worried about him!) Lena Headey, Robert Sheehan, and Jemima West were fantastic. I also think Godfrey Gao might've been able to pull off a better Magnus if they'd given him the sassy lines he's supposed to have (ahem, back to my point about the screenwriters, lol).

  5. I hope the author gets a say in the making of it. That way they won't miss important bits, and she can choose people who she was picturing to cast

  6. Yeah I heard about this... I didn't care for the books/movie, but I wonder how they're going to pull a TV series off. They really need a recast though.

  7. I'm actually excited for this because the movie wasn't amazing and I didn't particularly like the actor playing Jace. Sooo I'm hopeful!

I can't see them keeping the same actors for any parts, really. Which is a shame because Simon was awsome

  8. I'm very conflicted about this.. I do think the story is suitable for a TV show, but it's so strange seeing there was a movie. You have to adapt to new faces and they have to make it new, otherwise the first season will feel like you are re-watching the movie.

  9. I'm kind of looking forward to it actually. Bad as it sounds, I didn't really enjoy the actors they casted for the movie except for Magnus. I thought he was the only one who fit the role well.. I wish they don't fuck this up on the TV series, because I would be really pissed.

  10. Last week all of my social media blasted this story everywhere. At first I was really excited, but then I remembered the movie. I liked the movie, but it wasn't all I'd hoped and it really didn't make much sense to those who didn't read the books. (Which I hate, I like movies to create more book fans) I hope they concentrate on keeping the story as accurate as they can. It could be really good! I don't really care if they keep the actors or not as long as the ones they have can act. I'd rather a tv show, because there's more time to tell the story. I don't have high hopes though, because so many tv shows made from books that I was really excited about have disappointed me.

  11. OMG I totally agree! ~_~ Jamie is just not the right Jace, and we need the perfect JACE. Lily is the perfect Clary, and Robert's the perfect Simon. Darn, although I really did enjoy the movie despite the sucky effects and and few bad actors, I was hoping that they'd continue the series with movies. But in a few ways, TV shows are thousands of times better. So I guess the only way to find out is to wait and see... but I feel like I need this to come out ASAP. Like you said, master of excellence, we should better see the crew take their time to write a good script and cast great actors to recreate this amazing story. Cassie Clare definitely deserves it, and so do we, us wonderful fans. :D

  12. I heard about this and while I'm a bit excited, I'm also really skeptical! A huge part of me would rather see The Infernal Devices turned into a tv show, but it isn't as "popular" as TMI. Don't get me wrong, I really love TMI, but I'm meh on this becoming a total franchise. :/ We shall see. I agree that tv shows are better than movies! Movies can be great, but a lot of times there is SO much cut out of movies that was important. :/ Hopefully the recast for the TMI tv show is waaaay better than the movie's.

  13. Now this is some interesting news... I really loved the TMI books but I really didn't like the movie, so I would agree that everyone needs a recast. But I feel like making a telly show would be really sudden seeing as they started with the movies? So will they stop with the movies?

But anyway, this is a chance for them to put the book in a new light and make the script good, which would make me happy. If they do a good job, I will love them forever <3

  14. Always try to organize your TV series collection, while it might seem like you can remember every episode, over time that might be less and less the case - no matter how many times you've watched the shows.
