2015 Goals and Resolutions

Happy New Year everyone!!!!

My first blogoversary is in exactly TWO months... Whoa.

To start the new year I thought I'd share my goals and resolutions for the new year.

Blogging Goals

- Schedule posts ahead of time ~ I want to get a month or two ahead of posting. I feel like I'm always scrambling to get posts in... I want to have the whole month already planned out with all the posts scheduled already.

- Keep up with comments ~ I got woefully behind on commenting back, 2 months behind. It was over 500 comments. I took this holiday break to catch up, so yay!! Now I just need to consistently comment back so I don't get behind again.

- Comment on more blogs ~ I want to discover more blogs!! I love visiting blogs, and meeting new people.

- Request less arcs ~ I always go crazy with arc requests, I need to dial it back. A lot.

- Write more discussion posts ~ I love writing discussion posts, but I never take the time to do so.

- Socialize on Twitter more ~ There's a whole bookish community on Twitter, and I want to interact with more people! :)

- Read books faster ~ I get through books so slowly since I'm easily distracted. I'll read a few pages and then get up and go make cookies or something...

- Limit the number of promos and blog tours ~ I only have two tours scheduled for next year -Fairest by Marissa Meyer and Dead to Me by Mary McCoy- and I want to keep it at a small number.

- Write my reviews in a timely manner ~ I need to write posts soon after I read the book or else I have a review-writing queue of 10 or so books. It's not fun.

Life Goals

- Exercise ~ I used to be fit and in shape. School and stress and procrastination has reduced me to being as inflexible as a stick, praying that I still fit in double zero pants, and gasping for breath after a half mile. I HAVE TO FIX THIS.

- Know when to focus on school ~ Books distract me. They are like candy, sometimes I choose to read over doing more important school-related things.

- College ~ I apply to colleges this fall, OH MY GOSH. :0 I hope I get in to my number one choice, my brother went there and loved it and I've visited the campus in Chicago and loved it as well. Now I just need to crush my ACTs and keep up my grades. Stress.

- Limit Procrastination ~ I can only dream...

What are your goals and resolutions for 2015?

  1. Happy New Year, Rachel! ;D
Fantastic goals! I've got similar goals for 2015. I'm not that active on Twitter, and I plan on being MUCH more active this year, and making new blogger friends (of course) ;) And I have the same problem that you have with ARCs. I go on Edelweiss and I request a ton of books, and then I end up getting approved for them, and then I end up rushing to finish and review them :(
Good luck with your college application ;)

  2. I also want to read faster, I feel like I'm quite a slow reader and I'd like to read books slightly faster, but then again I like taking my time to read so that I can picture absolutely everything with perfect clarity! I also need to get fit again, I totally get that whole not exercising thing because of school. I was able to do the splits and was quite flexible and although I can still do the splits, it's definitely not as easy as it was - so I need to work on my stretching/dancing again! Happy new year and best of luck. :) x

  3. Happy New Year! I also need to work on requesting less arcs, I have way too many, but then I see one that I want and by the end of the night I've requested ten new books! It's so hard!
My advice to you is to take the ACT at least twice, try to take it this spring and then spend the summer studying so that when you take it again in the fall you can get your score up! Also, start your college apps and essays in the summer if you can, it will make your life SO much easier!

  4. Happy new year! :D
I know EXACTLY what you mean about getting distracted with reading. It takes me forever just to find a comfortable position, and then I need to go get a snack, and then the snack made my mouth dry so I need water, and then my brother is saying something to me and then my phone buzzes... Here's to faster, less distracted reading in 2015 ;)
Good luck with college applications and the ACT! I'm not quite there yet, but my brother is also applying in the fall and it's pretty clear there's a lot of stress involved. Best of luck, and if you ever need someone to rant to, don't hesitate (:

  5. Great goals and resolutions, Rachel! I have a similar list and on mine I also have "write reviews in a timely manner". I let the books pile up and then I procrastinate because they are too many books to write a review for! I should fix that :)

  6. I'm also hoping to keep up with comments this year and comment on more blogs! I have to get better at writing reviews immediately, too. I have 4 books right now that I still need to write reviews for.

I recently applied to colleges, and I ended up taking the SAT three times. I never took the ACT, although I know a lot of my friends did! For both tests, I heard that the first three times you take it is when you're likely to increase your score :) Also, some schools will take the highest score in each section and add that together to get a score for you.

Good luck with your resolutions, Rachel! :)

  7. Happy New Year, Rachel!

It looks like we have some common goals for this year. I'm already a little ahead on scheduling posts, but I think I'm going to take the rest of Christmas break to schedule some book memes. I've been reaching out to more bloggers with comments, and I'm really liking it. It's fun to get to know other bloggers. I want to get more ARCs, though, but I have a hard time getting them from publishers. :(

Good luck with your college applications! I'm hoping to apply to grad school this year, but there's only one school I want to go to.

  8. Happy New Year Rachel, you've got some amazing goals here! Keeping up with comments is hard, and I know I got stressed about returning them immediately. But I've learnt to let it go a little and catch up when I have time to and when I can. Scheduling does really free up time later for you to focus on other things during the week, like commenting and schoolwork!

I really love your goal of knowing when to focus on school, it's hard sometimes and so easy to procrastinate.

Good luck with your college applications as well!

  9. Wow, amazing goals for 2015 you have in there lady!! I usually don't make many resolutions for a new year, and this one I'm just gonna try to keep up the blog as best as I can, and if things go well, enjoy working on my new place! Scheduling is super helpful! I always try to schedule as much as I can on my days off work!

  10. Happy New Year! I struggle with balancing school and blogging. I am easily distracted with books too. Sigh. Let's try to change that :)

Exercise! YES! I need to put that on my resolutions. Wish you more great books to read this year!

  11. These are awesome goals, Rachel! I also want to schedule more posts instead of posting sporadically, comment more on other blogs, write more discussion posts review more books right after I finish them instead of waiting for forever. I also want to request a physical ARC for the first time.

Oh, man. College applications. I don't even want to think about those, but in three years I'll have to face them. A lot of seniors at my school are getting responses back already, and it's nerve wracking just to hear them talk about it. Good luck. Limiting procrastination is good, too, but yep, I don't think accomplishing that is in my foreseeable future.

  12. OMG THAT GELATIN, IT'S SO ADORABLE. ♥

Those are lovely goals! I'm pretty behind with commenting too, but not 2 months behind. Sometimes, I feel a little lazy to reply, but I force myself to do it anyway haha. I should also request less and exercise more, since I read too much and stay at home. I know, I SHOULD MOVE MORE :(

Ah college applications, those are the stress. Don't worry, I know you'll get through them! And you'll ace the ACTs :D I believe in youu!! I hope you accomplish your goals! And hope 2015 brings amazing things to you too :)

  13. AW LOOK AT THOSE GOALS! You're going to smash them, my love! <3

Exercise was probably the bane of my existence this year. But you know what, I'm so glad that I kept it up because it paid off in the end. I mean, if I had consistently slept at a decent time I might not have hated it so much (I do my runs/gym etc very early in the morning). Keep at it though. It pays off! :D

AND to colleges and all, since I'm not too sure how your system works, I'll just say, hard work pays off. And you're so diligent so I know you'll be amazing. Try not to stress so much and well with that, I say take some time for yourself. It's not the be all end all, as annoying as that my sound (I remember detesting everyone who said that to me) but you know what, it's the truth. There are always other ways around things. The most important thing to remember is mental health. WHICH in conjunction to education, is never NEVER mentioned enough. I cannot stress how important it is to make sure that you take care of yourself mentally. Don't abandon your hobbies! I have faith in you though. You'll accomplish those goals of yours. Here's to an amazing 2015! <3

  14. A lot of your goals I need to do too lol. I need to stop procrastinating so much since I know exactly how you feel about queuing up book reviews. It's not fun :S I'm also hoping to schedule posts ahead of time even though I'm already struggling haha. I also want to write more discussion posts so I'm crossing my fingers for that :) I hope you get into the college you want and accomplish all those other goals! Happy 2015 Rachel~

  15. Schedule posts ahead of time <---- This is one of my goals too. I suck at this so bad!
Eating healthier and exercising is one of my personal goals too. I've been taking my kids walking to the park these last few weeks and it makes me feel so much better.
    Good luck for 2015!

  16. Woah girl, it looks like we have a LOT of similar goals!! I definitely want to schedule ahead some posts. A month seems really perfect. I always have in mind what post I want to go up, but some days I get so caught up with school, a post just doesn't happen. Which leads to a downward spiral of me not posting, and gah. I want out of the cycle, so scheduling is definitely going to happen. I've used a calendar already to set up what I want to post and when, now it's just a matter of actually writing the posts!

Commenting is SUCH a big thing for me. I want to be able to interact with a lot more people- same on Twitter for me as well. There's this huge, glorious community of people who all love to read books, and you know what? I want to be a bigger part of it. So commenting tops my list right now as well. Hopefully we'll be able to keep up with everything!

Man, reading faster would be such a dream come true. I get pretty distracted from time to time, as evidenced by the fact that I'm in the middle of three books right now. Whoops.

Your life goals are really solid! I want to exercise more as well, hopefully at least 3 days a week. Exercising just really helps me destress after a long day of school, and it makes me feel better. So I think that's definitely something we both need to strive towards. And haha, defeating procrastination... that would be perfect. I'm applying to colleges this year too (eep, you definitely have to keep me updated about your progress!!) and am actually currently studying for my SAT. The stress is SO REAL.

Lovely, lovely blog post Rachel! <3 Here's to an absolutely amazing 2015 (and getting into our dream colleges).

  17. Happy New Year! These goals are great. I need to stop requesting ARC's too - NetGalley is a nightmare at the moment until I catch up! I hope you get into the colleges of your choice - I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

  18. Happy New Year!
Amazing goals for 2015! I need to learn to write reviews soon after finishing a book too. It really gets hard to write the review after a certain amount of time. I would know! Scheduling ahead is also one of my goals. I can't tell you how many times I ended up staying up late finishing work I was supposed to have done days before!
Anyways, good luck on your goals!

  19. You've got some great goals here Rachel! I completely agree about the need to continue to comment on other people's blogs and respond on the comments left on mine. Sometimes it feels like a chore, but it's worth it in the end, right?

And I definitely need to write more discussion posts. My blog is all reviews right now, and I really want to write a discussion, but I can never think of a topic. *scowls*

And good luck with school & applying to college! Such a daunting experience, but I'm crossing my fingers that you get accepted to your dream college Rachel! <3

Happy New Year, and best of luck with your goals!

  20. I have to get in shape too XD But with reading, reviewing, blogging, Goodreads, I have NO time!! Plus school and school work, oooouucch. And I have to do some volunteering. Okay, *breathes* one thing at the time.

Oh man, I wish you luck with one two months ahead of posting. The best I did once was two days hahha...

I'm glad we're interacting again, missed you, girl <3

  21. Great goals girl! I'll bee your exexcise cheer leader since I need to do the same. Pretty damn sad that I worked at a gym for 6 years and went to school for nutrition. 😱

  22. Very nice set of goals! I have a lot of the same goals, especially the reviewing sooner and scheduling, and comments. And Twitter for sure! Also, the getting in shape thing is a big one for me, but pretty much the hardest!

Good luck with the college applications! I am sure you will do amazing, and I adore Chicago! Going to school there would be amazing :)

  23. I am very much like you! I go crazy when requesting arcs and then I get accepted for more than I assumed... so I am going to be doing less than that, no matter how tempting it is. Also, I like the commenting more. I do want to discover more blogs! As well as that I have done my first resolution and prescheduled for two months ahead! I hope to keep that up :P

I read, value, and cherish each and every comment. Although I don't have time to respond to most of them, I make every effort to comment back on your blog! :)
