#MeetTheNewbs ~ Lauren Gibaldi Author of The Night We Said Yes (Guest Post+Giveaway)

Meet The Newbies is a blog event co-hosted by Dana @DanaSquare and I, in which we introduce you to all of the new kids in school, the 2015 debut authors!

Meet Lauren Gibaldi:

Public librarian and author of THE NIGHT WE SAID YES (HarperCollins / HarperTeen, June 16, 2015) and MATT'S STORY (a The Night We Said Yes Novella, out August 2015). Fan of dinosaurs and cheesy jokes. And you.

Meet Her Debut Novel:

Before Matt, Ella had a plan. Get over a no-good ex-boyfriend. Graduate from high school without any more distractions. Move away from Orlando, Florida, where she’s lived her entire life.

But Matt—the cute, shy, bespectacled bass player who just moved to town—was never part of that plan.

And neither was attending a party that was crashed by the cops just minutes after they arrived. Or spending an entire night saying “yes” to every crazy, fun thing they could think of.

Then Matt abruptly left town, and he broke not only Ella’s heart but those of their best friends, too. So when he shows up a year later with a plan of his own—to relive the night that brought them together—Ella isn’t sure whether Matt’s worth a second chance. Or if re-creating the past can help them create a different future.

In alternating then and now chapters, debut author Lauren Gibaldi crafts a charming, romantic story of first loves, lifelong friendships, uncovered secrets, and, ultimately, finding out how to be brave.

Lauren's debut was spectacular! You can check out my review here. A big component of this book is a series of games, one of them being truth or dare. Today Lauren shares some truths that relate back to her book (<-- which is fantastic, so go read it!!).

Guest Post:

When I was a teenager, I hated playing confessional-type games. They were horrible! I was scared I'd have to do something terrifying, or admit something embarrassing. I'd make an excuse to go to a different room at the party, and hide there with my like-minded friends.

So it's probably weird that my debut YA book, THE NIGHT WE SAID YES, includes a game of Truth or Dare. Since I can't really do dares over the Internet, I'll offer some truths about myself in regards to my book.

-I've never said yes to everything in one night
The plot behind my book is that four teens (Ella, Matt, Meg, and Jake) say yes to every crazy idea they have for one night. Sounds fun, right? Yeah, I never did it.

-I've had some bad breakups
In the one night, Ella and Matt start to like one another, but Matt leaves about 6 months later. Why? Well, that's what they find out a year later. Thankfully, a guy has never left me like that (and certainly not for Matt's reason!), but I have been dumped a few times, including a dude cheating on me in front of all our friends at a party. That wasn't fun.

-I've had a thing for guys in bands
Matt's the bassist in the band The Pepperpots. I never liked the bassist. I dated the lead singer. ;)

-I rely heavily on my friends
Meg is Ella's best friend. They've been through breakups and breakdowns. She's the guiding light, the inspiration for Ella. I've had tremendous female best friends, and still have them today (look at the acknowledgements!). One literally sewed a leotard on me once. (I was in a circus. I suppose that's another truth!) I wanted to write a book with a strong female friendship, because those friendships have always meant the most to me.

So there's me! What are some of your truths?
